The Journey of CanSpeak English Academy

The narrative of CanSpeak English Academy is deeply rooted in a journey of passion, determination, and the pursuit of genuine language connection. Our founder, herself an EAL learner, began her English journey at 12 years old in a context familiar to many: a learning environment lacking in authentic English materials, where lessons meant translating Mandarin directly into English.

Despite the challenges, she excelled in her studies, always leading the pack in English throughout her school years. But her proficiency was confined to what she humorously refers to as 'mute English' – understanding the language in theory but faltering in fluent conversation.

In her second year of learning English, driven by a desire to connect with the true essence of the English language, she travelled 100 kilometres to buy English cassette tapes – her first true exposure to the language's authentic sounds and rhythms, albeit not from native speakers. This experience was a game-changer, setting her apart from her peers and deeply influencing her academic and professional paths.

She pursued an English major in college, where she realized the stark gap between theoretical knowledge and practical language skills. After earning her Master's in English Linguistics, she embarked on an illustrious teaching career across China, imparting knowledge in English and IELTS in colleges and international schools.

The narrative took a transformative turn in 2019 when she moved to Canada. Immersing herself in Saint Mary's University's International Master of Teaching English program and the CELTA course, she redefined her teaching philosophy and methods.

Today, CanSpeak English Academy is the culmination of her experiences – a beacon for learners around the globe seeking authentic English education. Here, we are committed to bridging the gap between learning and real-world application, offering access to top-tier, experienced educators.
